In this lesson, Pastor Marcos Marrero unpacks the story in Luke 9 where a Samaritan village rejects Jesus and His disciples, leading James and John to suggest calling down fire from heaven as Elijah once did. Jesus rebukes them, revealing that they had not discerned the spirit behind their reaction.

The teaching draws parallels between Elijah’s encounter with King Ahaziah’s men and Jesus’ final journey to Jerusalem, showing how Satan often tries to derail God’s servants by tempting them to deviate from their true calling. The “trap” is in allowing righteous anger, offense, or hostility to replace Christ’s Spirit of mercy, compassion, and salvation.

Pastor Marcos explains that the enemy seeks to disarm Christians by causing them to respond to hatred with hatred, thereby rendering them unfit for Kingdom service. Instead, believers must remain steadfast in Jesus’ mission: to heal the brokenhearted, set captives free, and save the lost. The true fire from heaven is not for destruction but for bringing light, conviction, and revelation.

Ultimately, discerning a spiritual trap means recognizing when we are being lured away from Christ’s nature and into the enemy’s agenda. Victory comes by keeping our hearts aligned with Jesus’ Spirit of love and mercy, trusting God’s timing for judgment, and staying faithful to the calling of the Gospel.

HOW TO DISCERN A SPIRITUAL TRAP

Pastor Marcos Marrero

In I Have Chosen, Pastor Marcos Marrero teaches from Psalm 119:30, highlighting the radical gift of choice that God has given to humanity since the beginning of creation. While history and nations often seek to strip people of their freedom, God created man in His image with the ability to choose, first demonstrated in Adam’s choice in the Garden. Though Adam failed, God’s plan of redemption through Christ offers believers the covering of His righteousness and the continual opportunity to walk in truth.

The message underscores that being born again does not remove the daily need to choose. As long as we live in mortal bodies, we face temptations and consequences from wrong decisions. Yet God, who has already chosen to love us and provide salvation through Christ’s blood, calls us to walk in the light and open the right doors of obedience and fellowship.

Using Psalm 119:25–32, Pastor Marrero draws parallels between choices and doors, teaching that opening our hearts to Christ leads to life, strength, and freedom, while wrong choices open doors to destruction. The psalmist’s prayers—seeking revival, understanding, truth, and strength—become a model for believers to cling to God’s testimonies and run in the path of His commandments.

The lesson concludes with a call to embrace God’s way of truth wholeheartedly, knowing that He enlarges our hearts to receive His wisdom and grace. Ultimately, the believer’s life is shaped not by the world’s restrictions, but by the eternal liberty of choosing Christ daily.

I HAVE CHOSEN

In Intercession, Pastor Marcos Marrero emphasizes the indispensable role of intercession in the Christian life, grounding the teaching in Hebrews 7:25, which highlights Jesus’ continual intercession for humanity. Intercession is portrayed as both a necessity and a divine requirement, bridging the gap between God’s will in heaven and the realities of life on earth. Since authority over the earthly realm was originally given to man but usurped by Satan, prayer becomes the means by which believers invite God’s will and power into situations of chaos.

The lesson frames intercession as a spiritual battle requiring consistency, persistence, and alignment with God’s will. Pastor Marcos outlines the priority of interceding for one’s family, emphasizing the biblical structure of the household and the power of agreement, particularly within marriage. He warns of Satan’s attacks on the family and marriage covenant, which are designed to weaken collective intercession.

Beyond the family, believers are called to intercede for those in positions of authority—government officials, teachers, church leaders, and lawmakers—so that society may reflect God’s justice and truth. Intercession is also deeply personal, requiring an intimate relationship with Jesus. True intercession flows from a heart aligned with Christ’s heart, leading the believer into deeper spiritual unity and even into what Pastor Marcos describes as the “hill of the Lord,” a place of communion with other intercessors in the Spirit.

The teaching concludes by stressing purity of heart and freedom from idolatry as essential to effective intercession. Intercessors must rid themselves of selfish ambition and deceitful traditions to carry God’s heart and release His will on earth. Ultimately, intercession is both a privilege and a responsibility, enabling believers to partner with Christ in lifting His name, advancing His kingdom, and shaping the destiny of individuals, families, and nations through prayer.

In Profaning the Covenant, Pastor Marcos examines Malachi 2:10 as a prophetic warning against turning away from God and His covenant. The study begins with the foundational truth that God is a God of covenant, upholding creation through His divine order. Unlike inanimate objects and animals, humans—made in His image—possess the ability to reason and thus bear responsibility for obedience or disobedience to His covenant.

Tracing back to Adam’s transgression in Eden, Pastor Marcos highlights how covenant violations are rooted in believing lies over God’s Word. Rejection of God’s Word equates to rejecting His fatherhood, His role as Creator, and His holy commands that govern human relationships. This rebellion, seen in idolatry and in the corruption of marriage, reflects a predictable downward spiral: first denying God, then redefining or profaning His holy institutions.

Pastor Marcos applies these truths to modern culture, showing how evolutionary theories and humanistic ideologies serve as covers for rebellion against God. This rejection escalates into moral relativism, where society calls evil good and questions God’s justice. Yet, Scripture warns that God’s judgment will come with certainty, burning away the wicked like stubble.

Despite the severity of judgment, the message ends with hope. To those who remain faithful, the “Sun of Righteousness” will arise with healing and restoration. God promises to turn the hearts of fathers to children and children to fathers, preserving those who cling to covenant faithfulness.

Ultimately, this teaching urges believers not to fall for lies that lure them away from godly traditions. Instead, they must honor the covenant, live under God’s fatherhood, and walk in His Word to avoid the curse of rebellion and to partake in His promised blessings.

PROFANING THE COVENANT

In Psalm 90, Moses offers a sweeping vision of God’s eternal nature contrasted with man’s fleeting existence. The psalm begins by affirming the Lord as humanity’s dwelling place throughout all generations, pointing to a timeline of 144 generations culminating in the last days. Moses reveals that life is a cycle of turning and returning, where death precedes new life, and mortality is transformed into immortality through Christ.

Verses 2–4 expand on the vastness of God’s eternity—time flowing from “everlasting to everlasting.” Human existence, by contrast, is fragile, like grass that flourishes in the morning but withers by evening. Yet within this frailty lies the promise of transcendence, where trials and afflictions are not meaningless but part of God’s refining work.

The psalm underscores life’s brevity—seventy or eighty years—and the reality that without faith, it is filled only with labor and sorrow. But for the believer, life points to a glorious destiny: the rapture, resurrection, and eternal dwelling with Christ. Passion for God, rooted in reverence and dependence on His mercy, becomes the key to wisdom. The prayer of the psalmist becomes ours: to live joyfully under God’s mercy, to endure affliction knowing it brings greater glory, and to pass on faith to the next generation.

The psalm closes with a plea for God to establish the work of our hands. True legacy is not found in earthly achievements but in works anchored in God, which He alone sustains into eternity. Thus, Psalm 90 teaches us to measure time not by fleeting days, but by eternal impact, living with heaven as our final home.

PSALM 90

In Salvation is of the Lord, Pastor Marcos reminds believers that while the world is growing increasingly unstable and many prepare through stockpiling food and securing safety, the Scriptures teach us that lasting protection and provision come only from God. Psalm 33 highlights that it is not armies, strength, or human strategies that save, but the Lord Himself who delivers His people from death and sustains them in famine.

Pastor Marcos stresses that although practical preparation is not wrong, our trust must never rest in material supplies but in the mercy of Christ, who alone is our salvation. Acts 4:12 affirms that salvation is found only in the name of Jesus, while Revelation 3:10 promises that He will keep His faithful people even in the hour of global trial.

Believers are called to demonstrate this trust through their peace and confidence in God’s promises. In a world overwhelmed by fear, the church becomes a witness when it shows reliance on God’s Word rather than human planning. This testimony points others to Christ, who is both our Redeemer and Deliverer.

Ultimately, Pastor Marcos emphasizes that perfect love casts out fear, and those who abide in God’s Word walk in peace regardless of circumstances. As the end of the age draws near, Christians must rest in the certainty of Christ’s soon return, rejoicing in His salvation and letting His peace shine as a witness to the world.

SALVATION IS OF THE LORD

In Acts chapter eight, the story of Simon Magus provides a vivid illustration of the clash between counterfeit power and God’s true anointing. Simon, a sorcerer in Samaria, had long deceived the people into believing that his magical abilities were a divine gift. However, when Philip preached Christ and demonstrated genuine miracles, Simon himself believed, was baptized, and followed the ministry. Yet his true motives were revealed when he attempted to buy the apostolic gift of imparting the Holy Spirit.

The rebuke from Peter—“Your money perish with you!”—established once and for all that the power of God is not for sale, nor can it be manipulated by human schemes. This event also foreshadows the rise of false apostles and counterfeit ministries, which even in the early church, sought to exploit God’s truth for gain. Pastor Marcos draws parallels to today, where secular predictions, manipulative doctrines, and counterfeit “prophecies” distract believers from the unchanging Word of God.

From Simon Magus to modern-day distortions—whether false prophecies about the end times, pseudoscientific theories elevated above Scripture, or ministries that commercialize the anointing—the pattern remains the same: deception thrives when truth is compromised. Believers are reminded that truth and falsehood cannot mix; the moment truth is diluted by lies, it ceases to be truth.

The call of this lesson is urgent: “Wake up before it is too late.” The body of Christ must guard against deception by holding fast to the uncompromised Word of God, discerning true prophetic voices, and resisting the allure of secular philosophies masquerading as truth. Only God’s pure Word, empowered by the Holy Spirit, can preserve the church in these perilous times and prepare it for Christ’s imminent return.

In Stability for Our Times, Pastor Marcos Marrero expounds on Isaiah 33:6, emphasizing that wisdom and knowledge rooted in God’s Word are the foundation of stability during uncertain and difficult times. Humanity naturally longs for a utopia free of suffering, yet Jesus Himself declared that tribulations are inevitable in this world. Historically and personally, fear and instability have always stemmed from the uncertainty of life’s resources, dangers, and losses.

Pastor Marcos explains that the wisdom of God sustains the human spirit and the knowledge of His sovereignty strengthens salvation. With Scriptures such as Romans 8:28, he reminds believers that all things work together for good when we trust God’s purpose. Trials and testing refine faith, revealing the treasures of God’s promises, while the fear (reverence) of the Lord becomes the true treasure of the believer.

Through personal experiences as a minister officiating funerals, Pastor Marcos reflects on the profound hope found in the resurrection. The certainty of eternal life and reunion with loved ones in Christ offers peace in times of grief. Death, while painful, becomes a temporary separation rather than a final loss, for to God all live. Believers are promised glorified, eternal bodies that will showcase God’s perfect design.

Ultimately, Pastor Marcos stresses that stability comes from knowing we are only sojourners on earth, destined for eternal peace and perfection. With this perspective, even in the midst of calamities, trials, or bereavement, Christians can stand firm, anchored in the faithfulness of God who promised eternal life and resurrection.

Hebrews 10:23 captures the core message: “For He who promised is faithful.”

STABILITY FOR OUR TIMES

In The Apostolic Anointing, Pastor Marcos examines the biblical foundation and purpose of the fivefold ministry as outlined in Ephesians 4:11. He explains that while all believers are called to serve, teach, and evangelize in daily life, the offices of apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, and teacher carry a distinct anointing and responsibility for equipping the saints and building up the body of Christ.

Using practical analogies, Pastor Marcos illustrates the difference between general service and the specialized anointing of an office-holder. He stresses that the anointing flows uniquely from the office itself, enabling ministers to fulfill their divine calling effectively. Each office has its own grace, and confusion arises when one attempts to function outside the anointing given for their role.

Central to the book is the argument that the apostolic office is foundational. Just as a thumb strengthens and enables the other fingers, the apostolic anointing supports and empowers pastors, teachers, evangelists, and prophets. Pastor Marcos ties this back to Scripture, showing that the church is built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ as the cornerstone (Ephesians 2:20).

The apostolic anointing, he argues, is not about creating religious systems but about confronting and destroying the works of the devil (1 John 3:8). Any ministry—whether teaching, preaching, or evangelizing—that does not aim at dismantling darkness and advancing God’s kingdom is missing the true purpose of the anointing. The church exists not to conform to the world but to stand against it in the authority of Christ.

Pastor Marcos concludes by reminding ministers to test whether their testimony aligns with the apostolic foundation: proclaiming Jesus as King, holding fast in faith even under persecution, and preparing the church for His return. He closes with Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 3:17-19, calling believers to be rooted in love and filled with all the fullness of God, equipped to carry out the mission of Christ through the power of the apostolic anointing.

THE APOSTOLIC ANOINTING

Pastor Marcos Marrero

In The Bewitching Hour, Pastor Marcos draws from Paul’s warning to the Galatians—“Who has bewitched you?”—to highlight how easily a Spirit-filled church can fall into deception without even realizing it. He explains that deception, like hypnosis, blinds believers to their own folly and causes them to squander the spiritual anointing given by God for discernment.

Pastor Marcos shows how the Galatians, once alive in the Spirit through faith in Christ, were led astray by false teachers who insisted on legalism and adherence to the Law of Moses. This shift from grace to works caused them to lose the anointing that empowered them. He makes clear that the law, while perfect, was never designed to save—it only exposes sin. True righteousness can never be attained by human effort, but only by faith in Jesus Christ’s finished work on the cross.

The message warns that the door to a bewitching spirit opens whenever believers or congregations compromise the truth of God’s Word. Pastor Marcos emphasizes that although obedience to God’s commands is important, salvation is never earned by keeping the law but is received as the free gift of grace through faith.

Ultimately, the antidote to deception is the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit and the anointing He supplies, which reveals truth and keeps believers free from the curse of legalism. The message closes with the reminder from Ephesians 2:8-9 that salvation is by grace alone, through faith, and not of works, lest anyone should boast.
