Top of Page BLAST FROM THE PAST THE EFFECTIVE WORKING WORD Written by Pastor Marcos Marrero 1 Thessalonians 2:13 “For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.” The Word of God has many functions, it created everything, sustains everything. But in a more personal level, the Word of God effectively works deliverance in those who believe in it. What is deliverance? Deliverance has to do with freedom. Since sin enslaves men, deliverance from sin is the act of being made free. John 8:32 “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Since the Word of God is the embodiment of all Truth, those who believe in the truth of the Word of God are delivered from all their sins. Deliverance from sin follows three stages; we are immediately delivered, we are continuously being delivered, and we will be delivered. The reason the work of deliverance follows three stages is because we are being delivered completely, spirit, soul, and body. Let’s take a look at the spiritual aspect first. Our spirit can never die, for the spirit that gives us life originated from God, and like God it is eternal. In our mortal human nature we are considered dead in trespasses and sin, but death when referring to the spirit speaks of separation from God. When a person dies in their sins their spirit becomes separated from God for ever, that is what is called eternal damnation. When a person becomes born again, or born of the Spirit, their spirit is immediately regenerated and will never again be separated from God. Our spirit is delivered instantly the minute that we accept the Word of Truth. When we die, instantly our spirit would rise up to God because of His salvation. 2 Corinthians 5:8 “We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” The only thing that our spirit needs after we become born again is to feed in the truth of the Word of God. For a weak spirit, one who is not being nourished by the Word of God, is not strong enough to influence our souls to turn its back on its sinful ways. We need to realize that our spirits are either dead, that is separated from God, or alive in Christ through the born-again experience, there is no in between for the spirit man within each person. Not so for our souls, for they are always going back and forth depending on which spirit is driving them. When our spirit is inspired by the Word of God it motivates us to do good works. When we neglect spiritual nourishment, our soul is moved by the sensuality of this world, through the spirits of the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, to do sinful things. That is why Paul is commending the Thessalonians for receiving the Word of God and is telling them this: Which also effectively works in you who believe. By using the words 'effectively works in you', Paul indicates that the deliverance of our souls is always a work in progress. Galatians 5:24-25 “And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” If we are born again, we live in the Spirit of God who made our spirit alive in Christ. So, why not also walk after the Spirit of Truth that can also deliver our souls from the deadness of this world system? Our physical bodies will not be delivered until the day when the resurrection of the dead takes place. Even if we are born again, our bodies will continue to decline and decay with the passing of time, for the Word of God declares that: Hebrews 9:27 “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.” So, that in our everyday lives, the ministry of deliverance is the process of working out of our souls its dependency to the desires of the flesh. That is why the crucifixion metaphor is used, those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since crucifixion implies a slow painful death, that is what the separation from the desires of this world entails, a slow painful death. Matthew 26:38 “Then He said to them, ‘My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.’” The hardest thing for us humans to accomplish is the death of self. Our self life is who we are and how we see ourselves. But when how we see ourselves and who we are does not align with the Word of God, there is no other choice, our soul has to die to self or lose its reward. The effective working Word of God is the only power that can bring about such transformation in us. This is what Paul told the Thessalonians, 'When you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God'. We cannot die to our self-life until we realize that our lives are not our own, for they belong to God. Reason dictates that if we belong to God, our lives should be modeled after the Word of God. As we welcome the dictates of the Word of God for what our lives should be, that is we receive them as if directly from the mouth of God, that’s when the effectively works part sets everything in motion within us. 1 Thessalonians 2:14 “For you, brethren, became imitators of the churches of God which are in Judea in Christ Jesus. For you also suffered the same things from your own countrymen, just as they did from the Judeans.” Immediately the world around them began to persecute them, just as the churches that they had modeled themselves after were persecuted. The world will always persecute those who desire to fulfill the Word of God in their lives. Now why is that? Very simple, those whose desire is for the Word of God, which is Truth, cannot be lead stray by the deception of this world system. If you don’t move with the flow of the world you become an impediment to the flow of the world. John 15:18-19 “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.” Hatred from the world means that the Word of God is effectively working in us the transformation that God wants to accomplish in us who believe. 2 Thessalonians 2:13 “But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation (deliverance) through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth.” Notice how the process begins with salvation, then sanctification by the Spirit, and all comes together by belief in the truth. Would you agree that the world is waging war against the Word of God? Here in the United States if a student takes his Bible into a public school building it would cause so much trauma to the local ACLU chapter that you would think that the end of the world had arrived. Just a lonely cross standing on a faraway hill causes enough distress to those who are under the influence of this world system, that they will not rest until they find a way to remove it. You cannot have such a disproportionate reaction to small things like those, unless it is because it offends the spirits of intolerance that are behind those who feel threaten by the presence of something that they know can deliver them from the power of those demonic influences. Think of it, that was us before we got saved, being moved by the desires of our flesh to lust after the things of this world, and to hate those who take a stand for the principles of life that are taught in the Word of God. And now as believers, are we going to tolerate those same demonic entities just so that we can be part of this world system? Of course not! But remember that deliverance from them requires us to fully commit our lives to the true teachings of the Word of God. Following with this threefold principle of salvation, sanctification and belief in the truth, we can take a threefold approach as well in our stance against these demonic entities. I call it repentance, renouncement and restoration. We repent before God for all of our sins, He forgives us and cleanses us from all of our sins. 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” We renounce the world and the things which are in the world. 1 John 2:15 “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” Remember, we know that His Word is effectively working in us when the world hates us. Matthew 26:38 “Then He said to them, ‘My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.’” The hardest thing for us humans to accomplish is the death of self. Our self life is who we are and how we see ourselves. But when how we see ourselves and who we are does not align with the Word of God, there is no other choice, our soul has to die to self or lose its reward. The effective working Word of God is the only power that can bring about such transformation in us. This is what Paul told the Thessalonians, 'When you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God'. We cannot die to our self-life until we realize that our lives are not our own, for they belong to God. Reason dictates that if we belong to God, our lives should be modeled after the Word of God. As we welcome the dictates of the Word of God for what our lives should be, that is we receive them as if directly from the mouth of God, that’s when the effectively works part sets everything in motion within us. 1 Thessalonians 2:14 “For you, brethren, became imitators of the churches of God which are in Judea in Christ Jesus. For you also suffered the same things from your own countrymen, just as they did from the Judeans.” Immediately the world around them began to persecute them, just as the churches that they had modeled themselves after were persecuted. The world will always persecute those who desire to fulfill the Word of God in their lives. Now why is that? Very simple, those whose desire is for the Word of God, which is Truth, cannot be lead stray by the deception of this world system. If you don’t move with the flow of the world you become an impediment to the flow of the world. John 15:18-19 “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.” Hatred from the world means that the Word of God is effectively working in us the transformation that God wants to accomplish in us who believe. 2 Thessalonians 2:13 “But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation (deliverance) through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth.” Notice how the process begins with salvation, then sanctification by the Spirit, and all comes together by belief in the truth. Would you agree that the world is waging war against the Word of God? Here in the United States if a student takes his Bible into a public school building it would cause so much trauma to the local ACLU chapter that you would think that the end of the world had arrived. Just a lonely cross standing on a faraway hill causes enough distress to those who are under the influence of this world system, that they will not rest until they find a way to remove it. You cannot have such a disproportionate reaction to small things like those, unless it is because it offends the spirits of intolerance that are behind those who feel threaten by the presence of something that they know can deliver them from the power of those demonic influences. Think of it, that was us before we got saved, being moved by the desires of our flesh to lust after the things of this world, and to hate those who take a stand for the principles of life that are taught in the Word of God. And now as believers, are we going to tolerate those same demonic entities just so that we can be part of this world system? Of course not! But remember that deliverance from them requires us to fully commit our lives to the true teachings of the Word of God. Following with this threefold principle of salvation, sanctification and belief in the truth, we can take a threefold approach as well in our stance against these demonic entities. I call it repentance, renouncement and restoration. We repent before God for all of our sins, He forgives us and cleanses us from all of our sins. 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” We renounce the world and the things which are in the world. 1 John 2:15 “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” Remember, we know that His Word is effectively working in us when the world hates us. You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did so do you.” As humans we have inherited the propensity to do both, good and evil, for from the knowledge that Adam and Eve gained from their partaking of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, we, to this day, continue in the ways and manners that our ancestors did. Satan was the tempter who deceived Eve into partaking from the elixir of death, Adam partook of it willingly not wanting to be separated forever from the wife that he loved. 1 Timothy 2:14 “And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.” Regardless of how they fell, all their descendants became heirs of the curse of death that their actions brought upon them. John 10:10 “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Now those of us who have received salvation through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, are passed from death into life, and from being cursed with lack and lost, into the blessings of life and abundant life that we have inherited in the new creation that we become in Jesus. John 8:52 “...If anyone keeps My word he shall never taste death (which is the penalty for eating the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil).” The agent that brings us into the blessings of this new creation is the Holy Spirit, but in our flesh, the carnal/natural man, we have an inherited tendency to resist the Holy Spirit, that tendency is still in us. 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” So that when we walk after the Spirit we do not fulfill the lusts of the flesh, but when we walk after the flesh we are basically resisting the Holy Spirit, and by doing so we hinder His work of filling us with life and the abundance of blessings that our Lord has already made available for us. Believe it or not, the greatest thing that hinders us from walking after the Spirit, is the law! Religion cannot function without rules and regulations. Galatians 3:2-3 “This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?” In the chapters leading up to John chapter ten we can see the resistance that Jesus encountered from the Jews that were so entangled by the law, and how to practice it, that they failed to see the spiritual revelation that Jesus was trying to teach them. Now the common people received the revelation that Jesus was teaching them, but for those full of legalism in their hearts, spirituality was nothing more than a curse. John 7:46-49 “The officers answered, ‘No man ever spoke like this Man (Jesus)!’ Then the Pharisees answered them, ‘Are you also deceived?’ Have any of the rulers of the Pharisees believed in Him? But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.” Here the Pharisees had sent the officers to arrest Jesus because He had healed a man on the Sabbath, in their religious thinking the keeping of the Sabbath (law) was more important than making a person whole. John 7:23 “If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath, so that the law of Moses should not be broken, are you angry with Me because I made a man completely well on the Sabbath?” The officers were so caught up with Jesus’ teachings, that they forgot why they were there in the first place. So that the people, the officers, and everyone that had an open mind, could hear and understand the teachings of Jesus that were being confirmed by the miracles that He was doing, except for the legalistic crowd, they were more concerned with the violations of their man-made rules that were based on their carnal understanding of Scripture, rather than the blessings that were being bestowed on the people that they ruled over. When a leader, or a group of leaders, are more concerned with the well being of their ruling structure and governing power, than with the well being of those over whom they have rule over, is time for those who are under their rule to get out from under them. John 7:24 “Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.” How do we judge with righteous judgment? 1 Corinthians 14:32 “ And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.” In other words, Scripture interprets the Scriptures. Did not Jesus said that the devil is the one that kills, steals, and destroys? And that He, Jesus, came to give us life and abundant life? Then was Jesus in the process of restoring life on the Sabbath, or was He taking it away? Jesus quoted to them the Scripture that said that an infant was to be circumcised on the eighth day, even if the eighth day fell on the Sabbath, now we know that a child’s immune system is the strongest on the eighth day, so that the spirit of the law is always in harmony with what is always best for the child, or the person, not what is best for the law itself. Mark 2:27 “And He said to them, ‘The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.’” Why are the religious rulers so much against the common people receiving the spiritual understanding from the Holy Scriptures themselves? When we receive spiritual understanding from the Scriptures that governs us, the Holy Spirit is in control, for He is the Revealer of Scripture, when we follow man’s carnal interpretation of Scripture, then carnal men are in control, and carnal men do not like it when they are not in control. If you read the chapters leading up to John chapter ten, you find that chaos reigned among them, when it came to what Scripture had to say about where the Messiah was supposed to originate from. All the works that Jesus was doing in their midst confirmed to them that whoever did those kind of miracles among them had to be from God. That was what Nicodemus, a Pharisee, acknowledged, and the miracles that Jesus did were the reason why he believed Jesus was the Messiah, but he too was confused about how spirituality worked, that is why Jesus told him that he had to be born again, born of the Spirit of God. John 7:40-43 “Therefore many form the crowd, when they heard this saying, said, ‘Truly this is the Prophet.’ Others said, ‘This is the Christ.’ But some said, ‘Will the Christ come out of Galilee? Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem, where David was?’ So there was a division among the people because of Him.” Like wise in our present day, confusion reigns as to when, where, and how, Jesus will be returning to the earth, there is even doubt among many as to whether He will be even returning to the earth. So how do we know? How do we prepare for His soon return? How do I make myself personally ready? There is only one way out of this confusing mess, we have the Holy Spirit to guide us, so let us put our trust in Him and not on the wisdom of man. John 7:39 “But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.” Well, guess what, Jesus has already being glorified, and we have the Holy Spirit within us to guide us and direct us into all truth. All we have to do is remain humble, for the Lord resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Let us rely on the simplicity of our faith; did not Jesus say that if He left to prepare a place for us, that He would return for us? Let us keep looking up, He is coming for us, that where He is we might be also. Is our world falling apart as the bonds of morality that kept it together become unrestrained? That is exactly what Jesus said would happen before His return. In order for the judgments of God to be revealed there has to be a rebellion against His moral codes. John 8:12 “Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.’” Stay away from those who compromise Scripture for the sake of keeping a balance between them and the world. What Jesus taught was offensive to many because He refused to compromise Scripture for the sake of being liked by the rulers of His day. There is a great deal of pressure being applied right now on many of the religious leaders to compromise for the sake of been accepted by the world, if you think like them, you become part of them. The spiritual thing to do is that which is best for you and your family in the long run, just remember that compromise is always a shortcut to nowhere. The world is in darkness do not follow it, follow Jesus by all means, who is the light of the world, and who always has your best interest in mind, AND WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT RESIST THE HOLY SPIRIT. Praise ye the Lord.” And Heavenly Father, I bless the body of Christ, all churches, and the Kingdom of God with softened hearts to be able to perceive and live by Your Word because even you showed the disciples how hard their hearts were when they didn’t believe when You rose from the dead: Mark 16:14 KJV “14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.” I also bless the body of Christ, all churches, and the Kingdom of God with a spirit of reconciliation because that is the ministry You have given us. Let the spirit of God move forth in the body of Christ, all churches, and the Kingdom of God to forgive and reconcile the lives back to Jesus, the Son of God as Paul states in 2 Corinthians 5:18-19 KJV “18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.” I pray that the body of Christ, all churches, and the Kingdom of God are restored into the joy of salvation, and to the paths of righteousness as the following scriptures state: Psalm 23:3 KJV “He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.” Psalm 51:12 KJV “Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.” I pray that the fruit of the spirit stated in Galatians 5:22-23 KJV “22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law” manifests within the hearts of the body of Christ, all churches, and the Kingdom of God. I pray that the gifts of the holy spirit stated in 1 Corinthians 12:7-12 KJV “7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. 12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.” would unite the body of Christ under one leadership, the Holy Spirit and that the Spirit of God moves through each of us so that we know what to pray, how to pray, when to pray, and praise the living God in all that we do. The body of Christ, all churches, and the Kingdom of God takes back what belongs to us with interest. We march forward watering and reaping those with the Living Word of God. We share the gospel in strength, boldness, and confidence knowing that this is the most important thing that matters to us in this world because we are not of this world. And gracious Heavenly Father, we praise You as Psalm 150:1-6 KJV says “150 Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. 2 Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. 3 Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. 4 Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. 5 Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. 6 Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Top of Page PREPARE YOURSELVES FOR THE END IS NEAR 1 Peter 3:15 “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.” But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: Prepare a room in your hearts for the Lord, for His return is imminent. As many of you who follow my teachings about the end times know, every year I make an honest assessment of what is going on around the world as to how it fits within the prophetic scenario. I call it an honest assessment because I try very hard not to let my inner desires for the Lord’s return to interfere with the reality of what is transpiring. One of the tools that I use to gauge the prophetic condition of the world is how it prepares itself for what’s coming. I believe that those who are in the know have no doubt that an end is coming. These self-proclaimed guardians of the world, who are very rich and powerful have an invested interest in knowing that which lies ahead, for that is how they have become powerful and wealthy, and it is through foreknowledge of future events that they remain powerful and wealthy. Luke 16:8 “...For the sons of this world are more shrewd in their generation than the sons of light.” They have a lot more to lose. Think of it, we just believe in the Lord and put our trust in His Word and boom, we are gone as soon as He returns, but they get left behind, because they love the world and belong to it. That is the reason why they prepare themselves, they are not planning to leave this world, but rather to rule it. I also believe that they see it as an opportunity if suddenly many of us are removed instantly from this earth in what would be a worldwide population shifting event, for that would create an opening for them to redesign the world government in a way that offers them the abilities of having greater control over the populate and their resources. Although this way of thinking has been around for centuries, we are now living during the technological age that allows them for the first time a real shot at a one world governmental system that could in theory be easily manageable. Revelation 17:12-13 “The ten horns (powers) which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast.” John saw how these agents of deceit await for the beast to be revealed to the world so that they can come out of the closet, if you will, and rearrange the world’s governmental structures into ten regions, that are governed by ten leaders, who give all their allegiance to the beast for the purpose of fighting against the Lamb who came and took away His children with Him, to prevent Him from coming back to the earth. A massive data collection complex is being built in Utah, USA, for the purpose of analyzing all of the information that we now know the governments of the world have been gathering for many years now, from people like you and me. Information is power, if you can predict human behavior and how people would react to authoritative change, then you can manipulate their behavior, like cattle driven to the slaughter house. What makes this year so different is that the powers that be are not even trying to hide their agenda from us anymore, that is how close to the end they believe we are, that they can flaunt their manipulative corrupt ways and get away with it without impunity, knowing that the end is near. How do we prepare ourselves against such a power grab? We are not of this world! Let them choke on it. But as Peter said in our opening Scripture: Always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you. We need to prepare our hearts and fill them with God’s promises to us so that we faint not in these last hours before our redemption takes place. If we are not of this world, then where do we belong? Hebrews 11:16 “But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.” We cannot change the destiny of the nations, nor can we stop the coming judgment of God upon an unbelieving world, but we can take encouragement in the fact that we belong to a heavenly country which they can never pervert, for righteousness and justice is the foundation of God’s throne, so we may lose our country here to godless unbelievers, but only to gain a heavenly city that God has prepared for those of us who love Him. 1 Corinthians 2:9 “But as it is written: ‘Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.’” The hardest thing for me to understand is the reality that there are people who know that all these things are coming and instead of preparing themselves to become part of the kingdom of light once our Lord is revealed, they think somehow in the futility of their minds, that they can overthrow God and His kingdom and usurp the earth that the Lord created for the delight of His children who love Him. Our next Scripture sheds light into how this is possible. Romans 9:22-24 “What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, and that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory, even us whom He called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?” Truth is the antidote for the deception that is being perpetrated right now upon the unbelieving world, we need to know, (make room) deep within our hearts that the end of this age is about to close, and with this in mind we need to prepare ourselves by changing our way of thinking from that of this present age, and begin to put our focus upon the age to come, we do this by disassociating ourselves from the entrapments that this world has to offer, through its lusts and passions, and its for’s and against’. Do not misunderstand me, we need to occupy and to do so fervently, and so we continue to expose their corruption, but we only occupy until He comes, and then we need to be ready to let go in an instant. And with this in mind we also need to make as many converts as possible, those who laughed at our past warnings, who are now witnessing the progression of lawlessness as it becomes exposed, need to know that there is a way out, for salvation is of the Lord. Hebrews 11:7 “By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.” If our mindset is corralled by our inabilities to change our present condition, then we become hopeless, for nothing that is going on in our present social evolving, is good for us the children of faith. House of Faith Ministries (HoFM) presents a teaching on Acts 10:38 “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, Top of Page THE ANOINTING THAT HEALS Acts 10:38 “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” When I started teaching about the anointing oil, it immediately became clear to me that more lessons would be required just to touch on the basic principles of God's anointing. In this lesson we will deal with the power of the healing anointing, or a different way to look at it, the anointing that heals! Now the very first thing that I want you to notice in our opening Scripture is how Jesus was anointed with the Holy Spirit and with power. This is very important, notice how it describes Jesus as having both, the anointing and the power that comes through the anointing. Now why is that important? Every believer that is saved in Jesus Christ has been anointed with the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:13 “For by one Spirit we were all baptized (plunged) into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink (partake) into one Spirit (anointing).” So that all believers are anointed with the Holy Spirit. 2 Corinthians 1:21-22 “Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.” But not all believers walk in the power of the anointing, now why is that? There are several issues here that we can point at, but at the foundation of everyone of these failures we will find that it is because they are all lacking in the enlightenment of what the truth of the Word of God is. John 16:13 “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.” The Spirit of Truth will not bear witness to falsehoods, nor to things that do not glorify the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Just like Jesus did not come to do His own thing, but only to speak that which He heard from the Father above. Since the anointing comes from God then all things must revert to God and to His Word, for that is from Whom the anointing flows. John 14:10 “Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.” So that we can see an extremely clear pattern of how the workings of the anointing flows. The Holy Spirit does not bear witness to Himself but of Jesus and the work that He accomplished. Jesus does not bear witness of Himself or the work that He accomplished, but He bears witness to the God from Whom all blessings flow. So that all who are anointed by the Spirit of God, if they want the power of the Spirit of God flowing through them, must remain faithful and true to the Word of Truth that governs the outpouring of the power of the Spirit of God in our midst. And that is without the Spirit of God we are helpless, and without the name of Jesus we are powerless, and without the guidance of the Word of God we are clueless and hopelessly lost. So let us begin with this point then, what is your relationship with the Word of God? Is the Word of God your only Truth? 2 Corinthians 4:2 “But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.” Paul was dealing with how the minds of the Jews of his day were blinded every time they read the Word of God, so that the Truth of the Word that they were reading could not penetrate their hearts. And that is what happens to many today that are anointed because of their salvation in Jesus Christ, but lack the power of the Spirit of God in their lives because they are handling the Word of God deceitfully. How do I know if I am lacking the power of the Spirit of God in my life? 2 Corinthians 3:17 “Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” What are the things that hinder us? What are the things that bind us? What are the things that we are lacking? If we honestly ask ourselves these questions and come up with things in our lives that truly hinder us, and find that there are issues in our lives that bind us to things that we do not want to be bound to, and realize that as Christians there are things promised to us that we are lacking, what do we do about it? 2 Corinthians 4:1 “Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have receive mercy, we do not lose heart.” The most important thing for us, is to realize that God is not against us; sin in the New Testament is defined as missing the mark, God does not want us to miss the mark. He wants us to receive all the blessings that He has already made available to us. Romans 8:32 “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” Remember that the key to the anointing power is truth, the above verse is powerfully liberating truth. I have been walking by faith in the Word of God for a while now, it will be thirty seven years this coming June, do you want to know what truth really is? Here is truth, Jesus loves us. He will never leave us nor forsake us, no matter what! Even when we are lacking the power of His anointing in our lives, He is right here. He will not go away, and He will never stop trying to get us into the true knowledge of His Word, so that we can receive the power of His anointing in our lives. He wants us to succeed. He does not want to see us lacking. He does not want to see us sick. He definitely does not want to see us powerless. In my many years walking with Him I have experienced a lot more failures than victories in the natural side of the ledger, but yet somehow out of the very failures of my many weaknesses He somehow always gained the victory in my life, and all because I did not quit in the face of failure. As a matter of fact, it has been in the midst of my greatest defeats that I have always experienced His greatest anointing. 2 Corinthians 3:18 “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” One of the greatest revelations that I’ve ever received from the Lord was while I was worshipping Him in a church service. The song that we were singing was, Here I am to worship; all of a sudden the Lord revealed to me in the middle of that song, the many schemes that the enemy had employed through the years to try to destroy my faith in Jesus. Things that I knew and many that I did not know. He just simply said to me, in spite of all that the enemy has done to try to destroy you, My grace is sufficient for you, and that was all the truth that I’ve ever needed. But we also need to understand that the power of the anointing follows a process of gradual transformation, and it requires steadfastness in our part. You see the true healing anointing begins in the inside of us. So that even when we do not see any immediate results we need to remain faithful to the truth of God’s promises, for He always comes through for us, although it may be years before we realize it, if ever while in this earth, for some, if not many of God’s greatest miracles on our behalf may never be known by us until we get to heaven. I have seen God heal a dying man from cancer even after my failure to pray for him, for I was intimidated by the hopelessness of the situation, but just the fact that I showed up to pray for the man was good enough for Jesus to heal him in spite of my failure to pray for him, although the man that got healed told everybody that I had prayed for him and that was how he was healed, yet I knew better than that, for I know for certain that I never prayed for the man. But I learned a great lesson that day, for the Lord spoke to me and said that my job was just to show up and pray, and that the rest was up to Him. So that it is our job to show up and not be intimidated by how hopeless the situation may seem. We are to pray, to anoint with oil, to proclaim the Word of God to those who are infirmed or bound by the enemy. But the miracle is always left up to the Anointer, the Spirit of Truth. I’ll close with this, a Scripture that I once heard an unbeliever proclaim on TV that it was so puzzling to him that he did not understand it and could not explain it. Mark 9:23-24 “Jesus said to him, ‘if you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.’ Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, ‘Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” The deaf and dumb spirit that troubled the child was rebuked by our Lord and commanded never to enter into the child again. What was the criteria for this miracle? A father needed help to get his son healed. The Lord helped him on the basis of His compassion and love. There are all kinds of things that we need to do, and there are all kinds of things that we need to learn, and there are so many Scriptures that we need to understand better, but at the root of all these things we need to know that He is a God that loves us, that He is compassionate towards us, and that He is more willing to help us in our time of need that we are to ask for His help. He will work with us to train us, He will teach us how to respect His anointing, and He will lead us into the valley of trust and leave us out there for a while if need be so that we may learn how to trust Him more.
