Top of Page THE HEALING OF THE DISEASED John 6:2 “Then a great multitude followed Him, because they saw His signs which He performed on those who were diseased.” Diseased: Feeble, Impotent, Sick. All of the above are Greek meanings for the word translated diseased. We can safely surmise that powerlessness is the root cause of all those who are diseased, and that is why it is preceded by the word performed. In other words, Jesus was able to perform on behalf of those who were powerless, that which they were unable to do for themselves. Jesus strengthened the feeble, He healed the sick, and He empowered the powerless to do that which they were not able to do for themselves. No wonder a great multitude followed Him, for no matter what the sickness or the need was of anyone that came to Jesus, they were all empowered to overcome their deficiencies. John 5:46-47 “For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me. But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?” Jesus gave those who doubted Him and His ministry, an earth shaking revelation, one that we will do well to appreciate and understand. We humans have the tendency to focus on the actions instead of the causes. I am sure that many of those who followed Jesus did so because of the signs; they saw results, so why bother with the causes. In other words, they did not worry where the power that Jesus exercised was coming from as long as they themselves became the beneficiaries of that power. As long as they were healed it did not matter to them where the power originated from. Meanwhile, on the other side we find the ones that were questioning the ministry of Jesus, they just simply ignored the results of His ministry, for they could not accept that a single human could have been vested with so much power by God Himself. John 5:18 “Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him (Jesus), because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.” What was earth shaking about what Jesus told them was that if they had believed what Moses wrote to them, then they should have believed in Him as well, for Moses had told them about Jesus before Jesus even came to this earth. Deuteronomy 18:15,18 “The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear...I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and I will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him.” The Jews of Jesus’ day were raised to know the Scriptures and to abide by them. They believed that the miracles that God performed through the hands of Moses happened as written in the Scriptures. They also believed and were looking for the Prophet that Moses told them that God would raise from their own brethren in the future. Now if one believes the promises that Moses wrote, and if one sees Jesus doing great signs and wonders, that which only God is able to do, the only reasonable conclusion that one can arrive at is that Jesus is the One that Moses had promised them would come. Their leaders rejected Jesus because they did not really believe deep down in their hearts the writings of Moses, that is what Jesus told them: But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words? And the majority of the multitudes that followed Jesus at first, rejected Him afterwards, by publicly demanding that a murderer be released instead of Jesus; because they saw Jesus as one who could not empower them anymore, after He had fallen into the hands of the Romans. Mark 15:32 “‘Let the Christ, the King of Israel, descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe.’ Even those who were crucified with Him reviled Him.” So that both, their leaders, and many who witnessed the great wonders that Jesus performed among them, were eventually deceived and missed out on the benefits of the salvation that God had worked in their midst and on their behalf. So what are we looking for here that can help us today? Let us begin with two simple questions! 1) Do we have leaders in our midst today that profess to believe in the written Word of God, but deep within their hearts deny its power? 2) Do we have people today that follow after those whose ministry demonstrates signs and wonders, but really do not care where their power originates from as long as they get personal results? Here is the answer to the first question: 2 Timothy 3:1, 5 “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come...having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!” Here is the answer to the second question: 2 Thessalonians 2:9-10 “The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.” Many real believers have fallen into the trap of certain ministries that project a real power and anointing, but who in reality do not fully adhere to true biblical teachings as evidenced by their carnality. And by the time those believers decide to turn away from such people, they begin to realize the spiritual damage that their involvement with such ministry caused them. On the other hand there are those who sit under ministries that proclaim the Word of God but deny that its power is for today. Those folks can never achieve their true destiny in Christ Jesus for lack of faith. So what is the answer? Here is what Jesus told the believers of His day: John 5:38-40 “But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He send, you do not believe. You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.” In the days of Jesus there had been many others who had claimed to be the Messiah, and some of them had gather themselves many followers. So that there was a real need to be careful. But this is what Jesus told them, You do not have His word abiding in you. Their problem was that they were not living out the Word of God. But you may say, were they not searching out The Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life? They were searching out the Scriptures alright, but they could not find Jesus in them, and if they did, they were Not willing to come to Me (Jesus) that you may have life. So what is going on here? Believe it or not, at the root of this problem is law and grace. When the Jews of Jesus’ day searched the Scriptures this is what they were looking for, Let the Christ, the King of Israel, descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. They were looking for a King that would save them from the Romans, not a Savior that would save them from their sins. That is the reason why they could not find, or were not willing to accept the testimony of the Scriptures about Jesus. They searched the Scriptures for a King and not a Savior. It was very clear within the writings of Moses that the law condemned, and that the only remedy for sin was the shedding of innocent blood. For it was written that the soul that sinned shall surely be cut off. So here was the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world hanging on the cross, bleeding to make atonement for their transgressions, and they are telling Him to come down from there so that He can earn their faith. One cannot get anymore selfish than that! Now let us bring this lesson to our present situation. Which Jesus are you looking for today, the One who will make all your troubles disappear in an instant by coming down from the cross and cater to your every need, or the One who is making you conscious of your need to be delivered from your sinful nature? John 5:26-27 “For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself, and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man.” To be diseased is to be dead in trespasses and sin, in order for us to be alive we need to abide in Him, to abide in His Word, and in His grace. Once we come into the knowledge that His grace is sufficient for us, and that there is no need to follow the signs and the wonders, then the signs and wonders will follow our faith, if we dare to trust in His Word. And as we stand firmly in His grace, which also means favor, we know that all things are possible for those of us who believe, therefore we will never deny the power that is in His Word, nor limit our faith to the point of hindering the destiny that He has for each one of us who dare to trust Him to the uttermost. Top of Page Top of Page NO FEAR OF GOD IN THE LAND Written by Pastor Marcos Marrero Published on 10/16/22 Amos 6:3 “Woe to you who put far off the day of doom, who cause the seat of violence to come near.” One of the meanings for the word Fear is to have a Reverential awe towards God! Instinctively we know that God is both—the Creator and the Judge. We are also able to comprehend that after death we have to face our own personal judgment before God. But in a grander scale we also—by way of instinct—realize that all of humanity will at one point come to its final conclusion. Ecclesiastes 12:14 “For God will bring EVERY WORK INTO JUDGMENT, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.” Capitals in the Scriptures added by me for emphasis. This reverential awe towards our Creator has been written within our genetic code. The spiritual dynamics of Love and Hate and of Good and Evil are also written within our genetic code. What does it all means? MORTALITY verses IMMORTALITY! Ecclesiastes 8:8 “No one has power over the spirit to retain the spirit, and no one has power in the day of death. There is no release from that war, and wickedness will not deliver those who are given to it.” No one can stop themselves from dying because we cannot retain our spirit to keep it from leaving us. What that means is that our spirits are immortal, and when we die it leaves us and returns to God who gave it to us in the first place. Ecclesiastes 12:7 “Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.” There is a war however, between our spirit and our flesh or between mortality and immortality; and no one is released from that war until the day we die and face that final Judgment. Hebrews 9:27 “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.” The verse: Wickedness will not deliver those who are given to it; this is a reference to our souls which are immortal as well, but have been corrupted by wickedness and thereby in need of deliverance before we face the final judgment after we die. Ecclesiastes 9:5 “For the living know that they will die; but the dead know nothing, and they have no more reward…” Provision has to be made for our souls before we die and face the judgment. How do we do that? We have to believe that only God has the power to condemn or to free our souls while we are alive, if we wait until after we die it is too late. Today is the day of salvation do not put it off. Mathew 10:28 “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather FEAR (have a Reverential awe towards God) Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Mathew 11:29 “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Rest for our souls can only be found in the atoning blood of Jesus and can only be received by faith as we believe in our hearts that God raise Jesus from the dead and confess with our mouths that He is our Lord. Romans 10:9 “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, YOU WILL BE SAVED (your soul will be delivered from hell).” Now concerning the spiritual dynamics between Good and Evil and Love and Hate; when there is a healthy respect or godly fear of the law of God and of the final judgment, society functions on the premises that Love is Good and that the government’s concerns is for the well being of those they rule over; even within the enforcement of justice. Grace is the overall goal or remedy, that as long as there is life there is the hope for redemption for every lost soul. The nations whose governments functioned under the guidance of Judeo Christian values enjoyed by far the most liberty and prosperities ever known in the history of man. Psalm 2:1-3 “Why do the nations rage, and the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against His anointed, saying, let us break Their bonds in pieces and cast away Their cords from us.” We are living in the presence of this prophecy being fulfilled, as one by one all the nations of the free world have turned their backs on the biblical principles that made them free and prosperous. What are the spiritual implications that we are experiencing as a result of their rebellion? We are in the transition of leaving behind love for what is good and entering into the depravity of hateful evil. The nations have fallen for the demonic delusion of good is bad and bad is good. 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 “The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the LOVE OF THE TRUTH, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that THEY ALL may be CONDEMNED who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” Remember the Scripture that said: “There is no release from that war, and wickedness will not deliver those who are given to it.” Also, we see in our opening Scripture that as this transition is taking place it has repercussions upon the inhabitants of this earth: “Who cause the seat of violence to come near.” The seat of God’s judgment day gets closer and closer the more and more that wickedness increases on the land. But God is looking for repentance, a turning away from evil. Amos 5:4, 6 “For thus says the Lord to the house of Israel: Seek Me and live. 6) Seek the Lord and live, lest He brake out like fire in the house of Joseph and devour it…” In the absence of a world-wide revival that would bring most of the nations of the world to their knees in true repentance—sad to say—this is it! The signs that we are rushing head long into the end of days are overwhelming. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 “BUT KNOW THIS, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. AND FROM SUCH PEOPLE TURN AWAY!” How do we keep ourselves from falling for this great delusion? Remember always the spiritual dynamics that are involved in what is taking place. Love vs. Hate and Good vs. Evil. We must resist the temptation to give into the rage of hate, by keeping God’s Word alive in our hearts: Always abiding in the love of God that preserves us. Habakkuk 3:2 “O Lord, I have heard Your speech and was afraid; O lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years! In the midst of the years make it known; IN WRATH REMEMBER MERCY.” 1 Peter 4:7-8 “But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers. And ABOVE ALL THINGS have fervent love for one another, for love will cover a multitude of sins.” As long as our moral compass is anchored in the love of God, we will always have a firm grip on reality and a firm hold on to what is good and thereby refrain from that which is not. Romans 12:1-2 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be COMFORMED to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that GOOD and acceptable and perfect will of God.” We can then see that Hate and Evil always go hand in hand, we cannot have one without the other. Hatred is the personification of evil itself, we should never give in to the venom of hate. 1 John 4:19-20 “We love Him because He first loved us. If someone says, ‘I love God,’ and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?” Every time that we express God’s love and goodness to others we are insulating ourselves from the toxicity of hate and evil. Such is the work of the spiritual dynamics between Love and Good. Psalm 85:10-12 “Mercy and truth have met together; righteousness and peace have kissed. Truth shall spring out of the earth, and righteousness shall look down from heaven. Yes, the Lord will give what is GOOD; and our land will yield its increase.” Here we see the same spiritual dynamics at work, but this time for the Good of all mankind. The truth that springs upward from the earth is our faith in the Word of God, and heaven’s response is righteousness rained down from heaven upon us who faithfully believe and wait fervently for His appearing. Here is a prayer of gratitude from one of His maidservants: Luke 1:46-55 “And Mary said: My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; for behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. and His mercy is on those who FEAR (have a Reverential awe towards God) Him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted the lowly. Genesis 2:8 New King James Version (NJKV) 8 The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed. Genesis 2:15-20 (NJVK) 15 Then the Lord God took [d ]the man and put him in the garden of Eden to [e ]tend and keep it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you[f ] shall surely die.” 18 And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” 19 Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to [g ]Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him. The above scriptures show us that Adam was in the Garden of Eden without Eve for some amount of time. We don’t know how much time because the Bible doesn't tell us, but we can guess that at least several months to maybe a handful of years went by where there was no Eve. How do I know this? How many animals, beasts, and birds did God create that Adam named and how long do you think it took Adam to name them all? Imagine this, let’s say God brought in a male and female animal that were gray, big, and heavy with trunks on them and Adam says I will call these elephants. What-if God asked Adam why? And what-if Adam asked God why a skinny tail versus a bigger tail to match its girth? You see God and Adam were talking or having a relationship. They were spending time with one another. God interacted with the image He made of Himself. Genesis 1:26a (NKJV) 26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; We were made extremely different then any other creature God had already made. We don’t look like the angels and to top it all off, God was spending time with Adam, not the other angels. Which begs the question, who was in the Garden of Eden watching? Ezekiel 28:13 (NKJV) 13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes Was prepared for you on the day you were created. Satan was in the garden of Eden and he was watching everything going on. He was perplexed and confused to say the least. He couldn’t figure out how could God spend so much time with such an inferior creature? When comparing man against his beauty, there was no comparison. He was made with every precious stone and was so beautiful, yet God wasn’t spending time with him…no he was spending time with Adam. When Satan saw that God placed a female in the Garden and left to give Adam and Eve a ‘honeymoon’, Satan wanted to show God how inferior this creature was. In fact, he wanted to make it such a point to rub it in His face…and was probably thinking that he could do a better job in creating creatures. And that is why Satan wanted us. And he continues to want us to this day because every time he wins, he's hurting God. Satan doesn't care about who you are or what you do but he does care that God loves you so much that he'll do everything in his power to hurt you because he knows it will hurt God. To put it simply, Satan hates God and everything God loves, Satan hates. God showed His love by spending time with Adam. Love is action and God is action. I bet Satan thought he was right when he deceived Eve and Adam. Genesis 3:1-6 (NKJV) 3 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ” 4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was [a ]pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves [b ]coverings. But God. He had a bigger plan all along. John 3:16-17 (NKJV) 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. We’re made in His image and He loves us. He paid a large price, the death of His Son on the cross, to get us back from the curse of sin when Adam and Eve disobeyed God because of Satan's hatred toward Him. Romans 6:23 (NKJV) 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the [a ]gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. After Adam and Eve sinned, they began aging and eventually died. But Jesus broke death by rising from the dead. Matthew 28:6a (NKJV) 6 He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Hallelujah! Now you and I can rise from certain death by believing and Satan may want to hurt us to hurt God but he can't hurt us anymore. God made a way for us to be saved! Romans 10:9-10 (NKJV) 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. And all it takes is talking to God. It began as a relationship with God and Adam, and it will end in a relationship with God and me (you). Say this out loud: Dear Jesus, thank You for dying on the cross. Forgive me of my sins and come into my life. Be my Lord and Savior. In Jesus’ Name Amen! Praise the Lord! You are now saved through Jesus Christ and don’t let anyone or anything tell you otherwise. Protect yourself by staying in that relationship with God because where God is, Satan isn’t. How often I wanted to gather your children together... Top of Page O JERUSALEM, JERUSALEM! Luke 13:34 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing!” Jerusalem is the city of the Great King, and as such, she represents the dwelling place of all those who make Jesus their King. Matthew 5:35 “...Nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.” Jesus is lamenting the fact that those who dwell in His city and are under His protection from the enemy, do not take heed to His warnings and run to Him in the face of danger, just as when a hen makes a warning sound and her chicks run under her covering for protection. What is it that makes men unwilling to run to God in times of danger? Many do not know God’s lovingkindness and compassion well enough, so they fear Him, others do not trust God enough to run to Him in their hour of need, while others do not think that God cares for them, so they say to themselves, why bother. 1 John 4:18 “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.” Is no wonder that the enemy uses fear to try and scare away from God those who are not really sure of God’s unconditional love for them, once the devil gets them away from God’s protection they become easy prey. I believe that this kind of fear will be the greatest factor that will be at play at the soon return of Jesus, when He comes to take us to be with Him in the clouds, while He judges those left back here on the earth. When the dreadful signs appear in the sky that His return is imminent, I fear that many believers will not see Jesus as coming to rescue them, but rather to judge them, due to the fact that they have not been made perfect in God’s love, you can get so embroiled on religious traditions and practices, that you forget what real Christianity is all about. I know that I harp on this a lot, but I truly believe that so many Christians in this present generation have been sold a bill of goods that does not measure up to what the Scriptures really teach about what is going to happen at Jesus’ return. For years I believed that the rapture would be an event that would happen instantly and without warning, for that was how many Christian movies about the rapture portrayed it, and the endless preachings that nobody knew the day nor the hour, so why bother to look for His return. 1 Thessalonians 5:2-6 “For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, ‘Peace and safety!’ then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.” Notice the stark contrast that Paul creates between light and darkness, and between those who know what the coming events entails and between those who do not know. Those of us who believe, have the Scriptures, that is why Paul tells us that we (should) know perfectly that Jesus’ return will catch the unbelievers by surprise, but then he says: but you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. The reason why it should not overtake us as a thief is because we are children of light, we have the Scriptures to enlighten us, and then he underscores what the Scriptures teach about Jesus’ return: but let us watch and be sober, watch for what you may ask? His return of course. Luke 21:27 “Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.” Now here is the key to what I am harping about; when Jesus appears in the cloud everybody will see Him, believers as well as unbelievers, what Paul is trying to teach us has more to do with how we are going to react when we see Him, will we see Him as a judge or as a savior. No doubt the world will be surprised when He appears, for they will see Him as a judge coming to judge them, and they are not, and have not been looking forward to that, however, we should see Him as a Savior coming to rescue us, for we have been anxiously awaiting for His return. But what if you have been told for years and years, as I was, that nobody knows about His return, so don’t bother with it, how will you react then, when you see Him in the cloud and all those people around you are running to the bomb shelters, will you run with them to get away from Him? Or will you with a firm and secure voice tell those around you what the Scriptures declare, that they that call upon the name of the Lord will be saved? Acts 2:19-21 “I will show wonders in heaven above and signs in the earth beneath: blood and fire and vapor of smoke. The sun shall be turn into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” In Luke 21:26 Jesus tells us that men’s heart will be failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken, which is what we see occurring in the Scripture that we just quoted from in the book of Acts. In the midst of the heavens and the earth becoming unglued, will you be able to say with complete assurance to those around you that, that is your Jesus coming in the cloud to take you away from all this chaos? And will you also be able to tell them what the Scriptures declare, that if they call upon the name of the Lord that they too shall be saved? That will very much depend on whether deep within your heart His perfect love for you, has casted out all fears, and also as to whether you have a reasonable understanding of what Scriptures teach will happen at His return. I always thank God for His grace and mercy that makes up for all that we do not know or understand, for He truly loves us, but as children of the Light we have an obligation to receive the enlightenment of His truth, if for nothing else, that we may be of help to those around us when that glorious day finally appears. O Jerusalem, Jerusalem...How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing!” Remember our opening Scripture? Well, Jerusalem plays a very key role in the end time fulfillment of prophecy as it pertains to the return of Jesus to the earth, if we understand this next Scripture it will help us even more to be ready and to know that His return is imminent. Zechariah 12:2-3 “Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem. And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it.” The Scriptures clearly indicate that Judah in general, present day Israel, and Jerusalem in particular, will be the focus point that will initiate the return of the Lord to the earth. Many Scriptures point to an invasion of the land of Judah by a confederacy of nations to the north of Israel, to remove Jerusalem from been the capitol of Israel will be their main objective, while the extermination of the Jewish nation will be their overall goal. Zechariah 12:9 “It shall be in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.” Before God’s final judgment against humanity begins, He will show Himself Holy to the nations of the world, that means that He will perform a miraculous deliverance of behalf of the city of Jerusalem, by supernaturally destroying all the nations that attacked Jerusalem. We will witness that invasion, and it will be a sign to us to get ready, for when Jesus reveals Himself to destroy those invading nations, it will also be the time when He reveals Himself to all who want to be taken out of this world. The timing of the invasion of the land of Israel by a northern confederacy may come as a surprise to us, but not the outcome, for when that invasion takes place, we are pretty much done here on the earth. 1 Thessalonians 5:8-9 “But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. Top of Page WONDERS IN HEAVEN ABOVE Acts 2:19 “I will show wonders in heaven above and signs in the earth beneath: blood and fire and vapor of smoke.” As Peter quoted the prophet Joel about what was transpiring after the Holy Spirit fell on the one hundred and twenty disciples and they were prophesying and speaking in tongues, the Holy Spirit did not stop Peter, but allowed him to continue with the rest of Joel’s prophecy that not only told how the church would begin, but that also spoke of how the church age would come to an end. We know from the history of the church that when the Holy Spirit fell upon the believers on the day of Pentecost, wonders in the heavens did not appear, for the sun did not turned into darkness neither did the moon turned into blood on that day, for those wonders are reserved for the times of the end of the church age to announce our Lord’s return. Mark 13:24-26 “But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars of heaven will fall, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.” We have plenty of Scriptures that associate those wondrous cosmic upheavals to the return of Jesus Christ for His church. Since we are living in the days of the closing of the church age, it is imperative that we not only look for those signs to come to pass in our day, but that we understand what those signs are and how they relate to our present condition when they appear. What does the powers in the heavens will be shaken mean? Modern science has a very strong grip in our present understanding of the physical heaven of today, we see the pictures of the myriad of galaxies that fill the sky, and we struggle to understand the vast distances that separate us, not only from other galaxies, but even from those stars that are close to us within our own galaxy. The immensity of those vast distances, and the scope and grandeur of the cosmos in relation to our tiny earth, makes even those of us who believe that God created us feel so insignificant, that it diminishes our own conception of who we are, and it makes us wonder why such a great Creator would bother Himself with such a small speck of dirt. I believe that when the powers of the heavens are shaken, all those misconceptions that we presently have about the universe, and our importance within it, will be done away with right away. What does Scripture really mean when it states that the powers of the heavens will be shaken? Can we, from our present-day vantage point postulate what the real unseen power that runs the universe is? And can we imagine what the reality of the unseen universe will be when it is finally revealed? I do not know that we really can, but that should not stop us from trying to seek the truth that will prepare us to readily accept our place within the creation when it is finally revealed through God’s wonders. Where do we start? Psalm 8:1,4 “O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth, who have set Your glory above the heavens!...What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?” When David saw the revelation of the many wonders of God’s heavenly creation, he felt the same way that we do when we gaze at the pictures that come to us from the universe that reveals creation’s wonders. It caused David to ask, if I can paraphrase: What is the human race that You visit us, that You care for us, that You give attention to? Immediately God answered his question. Psalm 8:6 “You have made him (humans) to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet.” The answer lies not in the proportion of our size in relation to the greatness of the creation, but rather in the greatness of the position that has been assigned to us within the creation. As we read the history of the creation in the opening chapters of the book of Genesis, galaxies and constellations are not the focus, neither are black holes or dark matter, man is the crowning achievement of God’s creation! That is why he was put in charge of all that was created. Psalm 19:1 “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handy work.” The firmament refers to the first heaven, the physical realm of which the earth is the capitol, where man was placed to rule everything from. So that while the heavens, visible and invisible, demonstrate how magnificently glorious and powerful the Creator is, His human creation before the fall, was created to demonstrate God’s righteous character and compassion, the invisible qualities of the Creator, into a visible forum He called the firmament where He placed His human jewels. So that the supreme qualities of the Creator are not seen through the heavenly bodies that He created, marvelously wonderful as they might be. The supreme quality of the Creator can be seen through the human creatures that He created in His personal image, as fully demonstrated through the life of Jesus, the only human able to portray God’s wondrous love in all its beauty and elegance, towards fallen creatures like us who did not deserve His love or compassion to begin with. Psalm 8:3 “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained.” God created all His heavenly wonders with His fingertips . Isaiah 63:5 “...Therefore My own arm brought salvation for Me...” But when it came to the creation and to the salvation of His beloved humans it required all the strength of His right arm. If we put it within the context of God’s creation this is what it all means, all the billions and billions of galaxies, all the trillions and trillions of stars, all the nebulas, all the black holes, all the dark matter, all the dark energy, gravity, you name it, all of those things which exist in the universe were made by the simple touch of God’s finger. But when it came to His beloved humans whom He made out of earth’s dirt and placed us in it, so that from it we could rule over His entire creation, He brought the full force of His righteous right arm to bear, for to Him we are His jewels, the most valuable of all that He has created. Psalm 98:1-2 “Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! For He has done marvelous things; His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him the victory. The Lord has made known His salvation; His righteousness He has revealed in the sight of the nations.” Science has it all backwards, they worship the creation rather than the Creator, who is forever blessed. Amen! So that before the Lord announces to the world the return of His Salvation, Jesus, who is coming to redeemed us, His human brethren, from the decay and corruption of this world that is passing, God will set the record straight once and for all, by shaking violently the heavens, the earth, and the underworld, everything that He created, as one who is removing the ingenuously designed wrapping on a present that He can hardly wait to open. Malachi 3:17 “They shall be mine, says the Lord of hosts, on the day that I make them my jewels. And I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.” I constantly hear the harpings of this world sages stating that if they find that life evolved and exists in another part of the universe, that it will be a transforming event, they do not spell it out, but what they are saying is that it will invalidate the Bible and what it teaches concerning God’s special creation of the human race. In order for a life supporting planet to exist, it needs to orbit a star, the closest star to our solar system is light years away, we have a better chance of growing wings and flying by just eating ducks, than we would ever have of interacting with anything that is a light year away. They think somehow, that if there is intelligent life in another planet somewhere, that it will prove the Bible wrong. But yet the Bible teaches that there is intelligent life elsewhere, they are called angels, they live in a spiritual/invisible realm, and they interact with earthlings all the time. They travel back and forth from the presence of God to the earth all the time, as ministering angels on God’s behalf to the human race. Hebrews 1:14 “Are they not all (the angels) ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?” In our next lesson I will deal with the difference between the three dimensional physical realm where we humans live and the four-dimensional realm where the angels operate.
